McGill (or is that Magill?) family
James McGill was born about 1787 in Ireland, the son of Henry and Sarah McGill. According to his shipping papers, he was a native of Tyrone/Armagh, however his death certificate gives his place of birth as County Monaghan, Ireland. He married Jane Lawson in Ireland. Jane was born about 1784, the daughter of Samuel and Jane Lawson.
The children of this marriage were:
- Ellen McGill (Abt 1811 - 1880) married John Bailey;
- Jane McGill (Abt 1814 - 1879) married William Gordon;
- Margaret McGill (1817 - 1898) married Michael Kelly;
- Anne McGill (Abt 1821 - 1898) married William Waugh;

Ellen McGill
Ellen McGill was born about 1811. Her shipping papers state that she was a native of County Monaghan, Ireland. Ellen married John Bailey in Belfast Ireland in 1837. Ellen and John arrived in NSW in 1840 on the "Royal Consent", by 1847 they had settled in Jamberoo, where Ellen's sister Jane was living with her family. Ellen died at Kangaroo Valley in 1880.
